Article Icon 1Workers Rally at Capitol for Labor Law Reforms

Hundreds of workers and activists rallied at the Colorado state capitol Tuesday, urging lawmakers to update what they describe as outdated labor laws.

A coalition called Colorado Worker Rights United, along with supporting legislators, announced plans to introduce the Worker Protection Act, which would simplify union formation and strengthen worker protections.

Supporters say the proposal will expand workers’ rights in Colorado, citing a new report by the Colorado Fiscal Institute linking strong unions to economic growth and improved job quality.

Opponents, including the Colorado Chamber of Commerce, contend that existing laws already balance the interests of workers and businesses and warn that the proposed changes could raise costs and harm the state’s economic competitiveness.

A substitute school bus driver in Castle Rock sparked outrage after dropping 40 Clear Sky Elementary students far from their designated bus stops.

Students were reportedly left at random locations, including near Cedar Hill Cemetery, causing panic and confusion among parents and children.

Parents alleged that the driver skipped stops, used vulgar language, and threatened the students, leaving many children feeling distressed and traumatized.

The Douglas County School District called the incident “incredibly concerning” and confirmed that the driver was placed on leave. The district is conducting an investigation in collaboration with local law enforcement.

Officials in Boulder have removed unauthorized traffic signs that were installed without approval. Photos of the signs are here.

The signs, which featured explicit language, urged drivers to put down their phones, avoid distractions, and obey speed limits. They appeared professionally manufactured, and their removal required specialized tools.

According to the city of Boulder’s crash data interactive map, three fatal crashes occurred in Boulder in 2023, though none were reported near the locations where the signs were placed.

Boulder Police are investigating the incident as criminal tampering and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
