Article Icon 1Polis Signs ‘Healthy Choices’ Order

Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order last week prohibiting most state agencies from using state funds to buy alcohol, soft drinks, or other sugary drinks for official state functions.

The prohibited functions include meetings, conferences, and training events. Sugary beverages excluded from the ban are those containing milk or milk alternatives and those made of at least 50% vegetable or fruit juice.

The executive order comes after a governor-appointed human services board refused to pass a plan that would have prohibited Coloradans from using food stamps to buy soda.

The order also requires most state agencies to promote educational information about healthy foods, increase access to government aid programs, and encourage outdoor exercise.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has released a comprehensive 10-year plan outlining road construction projects slated to take place across the state over the next decade.

According to CDOT, the plan is based on the department’s three core pillars, which are to fix the state’s roads, advance transportation safety, and increase sustainable transportation choices.

Key initiatives include the Colorado Mountain Rail as well as the Front Range Passenger Rail projects. Other plans include Interstate 70 reconstruction and repair projects on the Eastern Plains and in Glenwood Canyon.

CDOT said its last 10-year plan delivered measurable progress in improving pavement conditions statewide.

A vehicle crashed through a security gate at Denver International Airport (DIA) early Monday morning.

Around 2:15 a.m., a Denver police officer saw a Lexus NX250 approach a DIA security gate. When an officer approached the car, the driver crashed through the gate into a loading dock area.

According to the officer, the driver then exited the vehicle, hid behind an electrical box, and kicked at him while being placed under arrest.

The damages were reported to total at least $ 1 million. The suspect, identified as a 34-year-old man, faces charges including criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and driving under the influence.
