Three people died when a small plane went down Saturday morning in a remote wilderness area near Swampy Pass in Gunnison County.

The Gunnison County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Mark Hendrickson, 46, and two Hendrickson teenagers, ages 15 and 13.

Crews reached the site after a report came in around 9:20 a.m. and found all three occupants dead. The family has thanked the community for its support.

The Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the U.S. Forest Service are investigating the cause of the crash.

Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is investigating 10 separate crashes, including two hit-and-runs, that disrupted southbound I-25 in northern Colorado on Friday morning.

The first came around 6:31 a.m. west of Windsor, when a pickup rear-ended a Kia that had braked and swerved into the HOV lane, then drove away.

More crashes followed as drivers ran into slowing or stopped traffic, including a three-vehicle chain reaction and a second hit-and-run that struck a Subaru Outback.

CSP reported no injuries, and a lane near milepost 261 was closed for about 90 minutes. Troopers urged drivers to leave a buffer in case traffic stops suddenly.

Article Icon 1More Rain Expected in Southwest Colorado

Authorities warned that streams and rivers in southwest Colorado could rise again Sunday as another round of rain moved into areas already hit by this week’s flooding.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for much of the Four Corners, and CDOT said the San Juan River Bridge stayed closed after flows rose overnight.

The San Juan River reached levels not seen since 1911, a NOAA meteorologist said, and Pagosa Springs residents face a recovery that could take months.

Gov. Jared Polis has expanded a flood disaster emergency to 12 counties. Some evacuation orders were lifted in Pagosa Springs on Saturday.
