Article Icon 1Flood Emergency Grows to 12 Counties

Gov. Jared Polis added Conejos County to his flood disaster emergency, which now covers 12 southwest Colorado counties.

The San Juan River crested near 15 feet in Pagosa Springs early Friday, more than 2 feet above last October’s flood.

“Residents that avoided a lot of the flooding damage last year are flooded this year,” Archuleta County Manager Longinos Gonzalez Jr. said. He also reported that the sheriff called the damage “catastrophic.”

A Colorado National Guard Black Hawk helped rescue two people from an RV surrounded by floodwater Friday. State helicopters are assisting others stranded in their homes.

Wolf Creek Pass remains closed between Treasure Falls and South Fork, and Red Mountain Pass is down to one alternating lane. Residents can call 211 for shelter information and help with temporary housing vouchers.

Article Icon 1Trump Skips Marx in Colorado Endorsements

President Trump endorsed four Colorado Republicans for Congress Thursday but left GOP gubernatorial nominee Victor Marx off the list.

The list covered every Republican now serving in Colorado’s U.S. House delegation: Reps. Jeff Hurd, Lauren Boebert, Jeff Crank, and Gabe Evans. Trump has endorsed governor candidates in many other states as he rolls out picks before the Nov. 3 midterms.

Marx said the omission makes clear he’s an outsider. “I’m running because Colorado needs real change, and the people of this state deserve a governor who answers to them, not the political machine,” he wrote.

Marx faces Democratic Attorney General Phil Weiser and unaffiliated former Rep. Greg Lopez. Some Republicans, including former Rep. Ken Buck, have endorsed Weiser.

Article Icon 1Clear Creek Man Fights Off Bear

A Clear Creek County man kicked a charging bear early Thursday in what Colorado Parks and Wildlife counts as the state’s 12th bear attack this year.

The homeowner told CPW he heard noises around 1 a.m. and found the bear by his trash cans. When he yelled, it ran at him; he pushed it away, it charged again, and he kicked it before it fled.

He sought medical treatment afterward. Wildlife officers couldn’t find the bear and asked neighbors to remove trash and other attractants.

The attack comes as CPW warns of what it calls “unprecedented levels of bear activity” statewide. Low snowpack and late freezes wrecked the berry crops bears rely on before hibernation.

“This is the worst food failure year that we’ve ever had,” said Travis Sauder, a CPW assistant wildlife manager. Officials suggest keeping air horns or bear spray handy.

The Flyover

They may come home to your town. Hope can reach them now.

It’s easy to think of prison as somewhere separate from everyday life. But people who leave Colorado prisons return to communities like ours, bringing their hopes and challenges with them.

Some are seeking a fresh start while they’re still inside. And some want a Bible but don’t have access to one.

Through Prison Fellowship, you can help put God’s Word into their hands.

A Bible offers the opportunity to explore forgiveness, purpose, and a new way forward. It’s something they can read today and draw from as they think about tomorrow.

Your gift is a personal way to care about the person behind the prison walls.

Help send a Bible today.
