Article Icon 1Dynamic Tolling Launches on I-25 and I-70

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that dynamic tolling will begin Monday on portions of I-25 and I-70.

The system will cover the I-25 South Gap Express Lanes between Monument and Castle Rock, as well as westbound I-70 between the Veterans Memorial Tunnels and Empire.

Dynamic tolling adjusts rates every 5 to 15 minutes based on traffic conditions to ease congestion and ensure reliable travel times. Tolls will range from $1.50 to $4.75 on I-25 and may reach $9 on I-70.

Already implemented on Central 70, the system is part of CDOT’s broader plan to expand its use statewide.

A Civil Air Patrol plane crash near Storm Mountain in Larimer County on Saturday left two people dead and one injured.

The single-engine Cessna 182, operated by the Thompson Valley Composite Squadron, was on a routine training mission focused on aerial photography when the crash occurred.

The Civil Air Patrol, a nonprofit auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is known for its work in search-and-rescue operations, disaster relief, and supporting emergency services.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, is investigating the cause of the incident.

Jon and Carie Hallford, the owners of Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, pleaded guilty to 190 counts of abuse of a corpse as part of a plea deal.

The charges stem from the discovery of 190 decomposing bodies improperly stored at their facility. Investigators revealed that the Hallfords not only neglected the bodies but also defrauded families, sending fake ashes and cremation records, with some urns containing dry concrete mix instead of cremated remains.

Prosecutors agreed to seek a maximum of 15 years in prison under the plea deal. Jon faces up to 20 years, while Carie faces 15–20 years. Formal sentencing is scheduled for April.

The scandal prompted state legislators to tighten Colorado’s previously lax funeral home regulations. This year, lawmakers brought state rules in line with national standards, with support from the funeral home industry.
