Article Icon 1Snowstorm to Blanket Mountains This Week

A significant snowstorm is forecast to bring 1 to 2 feet of snow to Colorado’s mountain regions this week, with slushy conditions expected in Denver and the Front Range.

Travel disruptions are expected today and Wednesday as weather conditions worsen. Denver will see increasing clouds on Tuesday, with rain transitioning to snow, creating slushy accumulations by Wednesday morning.

The storm bodes well for Colorado ski resorts, which are preparing for a strong start to the holiday season. Heavy early snowfall has already opened more trails, with resorts such as Arapahoe Basin and Loveland reporting significant snow bases.

Article Icon 1Gas Prices Drop Ahead of Thanksgiving Travel

Gas prices in Colorado are falling just in time for Thanksgiving travel.

According to GasBuddy, the average price in Denver dropped 10.5 cents in the past week to $2.70 per gallon, with the lowest at $2.22 and the highest at $3.52.

Fort Collins reported an average price of $2.68 per gallon, Colorado Springs $2.71, and the statewide average settled at $2.83.

The decline is good news for the estimated 71.7 million Americans expected to hit the road for Thanksgiving. Nationally, gas prices dipped slightly to an average of $3.01 per gallon.

Article Icon 1Colorado Thanksgiving Dinner Cost 4th Highest

The cost of a 10-person Thanksgiving dinner—pumpkin pie included—is down 5% from last year, averaging $58.08 nationwide, largely due to lower turkey prices.

In Colorado, however, the same 12-item meal costs an average of $71.78, the fourth highest in the U.S., reflecting the state’s higher living costs according to the Farm Bureau Thanksgiving Cost Survey.

Nationally, prices for vegetables and milk have decreased, though processed foods like rolls and stuffing have become more expensive. Turkey, the most expensive item, is driving overall savings nationwide at a price of $1.60 per pound. In Colorado, turkey prices average $1.98 per pound.

Ham, another holiday staple, has seen a significant price drop, costing 18% less than last year.
