Article Icon 1Aurora Delays Data Center Vote

Aurora City Council shut down an effort to reconsider a data center moratorium just before midnight Monday. The motion got six yes votes but needed seven to move forward.

Councilmember Amy Wiles’ proposal would pause new data center applications until the council adopts regulations. Residents living near the proposed Vantage Trident site packed the meeting.

Mayor Mike Coffman, who cast the tie-breaking vote against a six-month moratorium in August, had predicted the measure would pass. He now calls the city’s current rules inadequate.

Coffman said he will bring back the same motion at the next regular council meeting. Even if a moratorium passes, it would not apply to the Trident project.

A skier was partially buried with their head under the snow after triggering an avalanche Sunday on Mount Bross. The 14,178-foot peak sits in the Mosquito Range south of Breckenridge.

Partners dug the skier out in about five minutes, and the group was able to self-evacuate. It was the first reported avalanche burial of the season in Colorado.

Colorado’s avalanche center said wind-drifted snow has built stiff slabs large enough to bury, injure, or kill a person. It urged avoiding slopes steeper than 30 degrees where snow has drifted.

The center resumes daily backcountry avalanche forecasts on Sunday. Its investigators also reconstruct accidents like this to identify lessons for other backcountry users.

TIME named Delivery Date AI, software from Colorado-based Ultrasound AI, to its 2026 best inventions list in the medical and healthcare category.

The software analyzes standard ultrasound images to predict when a baby will arrive. Founder Robert Bunn says it is accurate within about eight days and can flag preterm birth risk.

Bunn started the company after his wife, Nicole, suffered 11 miscarriages. The couple now has five children and hopes the technology spares other families similar pain.

The tool is in use in Brazil and Chile and received FDA authorization earlier this year for limited use in the U.S. Bunn hopes it will eventually reduce premature births.
