Article Icon 1Trump Calls for Peters’ Release

President Trump on Monday called for the release of Tina Peters, the former Mesa County clerk serving a nine-year sentence for a voting data scheme linked to the 2020 general election.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described Peters as a “political prisoner” and “hostage,” claiming her imprisonment is “persecution by the Radical Left Democrats” intended to cover up election crimes.

District Attorney Dan Rubinstein, a Republican, has denied the prosecution was politically motivated, noting Peters was convicted by a jury in a majority-Republican county.

Trump said he has directed the Department of Justice to “take all necessary action” to help secure her release.

Colorado has finalized a 25-year lease agreement with Union Pacific for the Moffat Tunnel, replacing a 99-year lease that expired in December.

Under the deal, Union Pacific will support the state’s plan to launch passenger rail service from Denver to Granby by 2026, with potential future expansions to Steamboat Springs and Craig.

The agreement allows up to three daily round trips, or 506,000 train miles annually, for the new mountain rail line, which would complement efforts to reestablish north-south passenger service along the Front Range.

Officials say the agreement lays the foundation for the future of mountain travel while preserving critical freight access through the region.

Aurora officials are considering a plan for city police to coordinate with the FBI and Buckley Space Force Base to monitor and respond to drones flying over restricted military airspace.

Under the proposed agreement, Aurora police would “assist, respond, detect, detain, and investigate” drone activity, working alongside federal agencies to counter potential foreign surveillance.

Mayor Mike Coffman said reports of drones flown “on behalf of foreign adversaries” have increased, making the agreement critical to protecting U.S. military operations.

At a recent congressional hearing, Pentagon officials said 350 drone incursions were detected at nearly 100 U.S. military installations over the past year.
