Colorado voters picked most of their November nominees Tuesday, though the Republican race for governor remained too close to call as of 10 p.m.

Attorney General Phil Weiser upset U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet to win the Democratic nomination for governor, though Bennet had long been viewed as the front-runner.

State Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer led Victor Marx and Scott Bottoms in the unresolved GOP governor’s race to face Weiser in November.

Sen. John Hickenlooper beat state Sen. Julie Gonzales for the Democratic Senate nod and will face unopposed Republican Mark Baisley in November.

In Denver, democratic socialist Melat Kiros ousted 15-term U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette in the 1st District primary. In the 8th District, Manny Rutinel won the Democratic nod and will challenge GOP Rep. Gabe Evans.

Colorado wildfires have now burned more than 84,000 acres as crews battle blazes on multiple fronts.

Disaster declarations are in place for five fires burning across the state, and officials warn the toughest stretch may still lie ahead.

On the Western Slope, the Snyder Fire keeps burning near the Colorado-Utah border, where three federal firefighters were killed in a burnover Saturday. They have been identified as Emily Barker, 38; Nick Hutcherson, 27; and Sydney Watson, 27.

To the south, the Aspen Acres Fire has grown to over 28,000 acres in Pueblo and Custer counties, forcing the evacuation of Beulah, Rye, and San Isabel.

Red flag warnings and critical fire weather are forecast across much of the state through the week.

The Denver Broncos will open 14 training camp practices to fans beginning July 31, with free tickets available to the public today through Ticketmaster.

Attendance is capped at about 1,000 fans per practice this year because of construction at the team’s facility, though fans will have shaded bleacher seating for the first time.

Veterans report July 28 to the team’s Englewood headquarters ahead of the first open practice.

Rookies report July 22 as the Broncos begin preparations for the 2026 season.
