Colorado Family Homelessness Surges 134%

Colorado saw a 134% increase in family homelessness in 2024, making it one of four states—alongside Illinois, Wyoming, and Hawaii—where homelessness among families more than doubled.

A report from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) revealed that nationwide homelessness reached a record high, with 771,480 people counted in January 2024.

Families with children experienced a 39% rise, with nearly 150,000 children experiencing homelessness on the night of the count. However, veteran homelessness declined by 8% nationally and 44% in Colorado.

ACLU Questions Aurora ICE Operation

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Colorado has raised concerns about a recent operation in Aurora involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and local police.

The operation took place after an armed invasion at The Edge at Lowry apartment complex, where two Venezuelans were allegedly assaulted.

ICE detained 19 people, 16 of whom were arrested—all of whom are suspected Venezuelan members of the Tren de Aragua gang.

The ACLU has questioned whether Aurora police violated Colorado law restricting local involvement in federal immigration enforcement. They are seeking body camera footage, while police maintain their actions targeted criminal activity.

Winter Storm Brings Snow and Frigid Temps

A winter storm swept across the state yesterday, leaving behind snow, slippery roads, and frigid temperatures.

The Denver metro area received between 2 and 5 inches of snow, while areas from Monument Hill to Pueblo saw even heavier accumulation, prompting a Winter Storm Warning.

By early Tuesday afternoon, the snowstorm had moved out of much of the Denver area. However, flurries persisted along the I-25 corridor south of the city and across the Eastern Plains.
