Article Icon 1Anti-Violence Activist Convicted of Murder

A jury on Monday found Lumumba Sayers Sr., a professional MMA fighter and Aurora anti-violence activist, guilty of second-degree murder in an alleged revenge killing possibly linked to the death of his son.

According to prosecutors, Sayers Sr., 47, fatally shot Malcolm Watson, 28, at a child’s birthday party in Commerce City in 2024. During the two-week trial, Sayers Sr. denied shooting Watson.

Witnesses said Sayers Sr. likely sought to avenge the murder of his son, 23-year-old Lumumba Sayers Jr., who was killed in a 2023 altercation. In that case, Tyrell Braxton was charged with the killing, and the case was later dismissed.

Sayers Sr. was also convicted of tampering with evidence and attempted tampering, and found not guilty of menacing. He founded Aurora’s Heavy Hands Heavy Hearts Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to curbing youth violence. His sentencing is set for July 24.

A new bill introduced Monday seeks to tighten safety requirements for rideshare companies, reviving a measure Gov. Jared Polis vetoed last year amid concerns Uber could exit the state.

Rep. Jenny Willford, a Democrat, says she worked with Polis after the veto to find a compromise. The new, scaled-back bill, HB26-1424, would require driver background checks every six months, bar people with certain convictions from driving, and allow users to opt in to audio and video recording of rides, among other provisions.

Last year, Uber and Lyft said requirements in Willford’s original bill were unfeasible, costly, and raised user privacy concerns. Uber threatened to leave Colorado if the bill became law and urged users to oppose the measure.

HB26-1424 is scheduled for its first hearing Thursday. Uber and Lyft say they are working with bill sponsors on the latest version.

A Miami company is buying Denver-headquartered RE/MAX Holdings, one of the largest franchisors of residential real estate brokerage services in the world, in a deal that will move the combined company’s headquarters to Florida.

The Real Brokerage Inc. will acquire RE/MAX in a deal implying an enterprise value of about $880 million to form Real REMAX Group, the companies said Monday. The merger would combine RE/MAX’s global franchise with Real’s tech-first brokerage.

The acquisition comes amid a wave of consolidation among industry players grappling with a difficult housing market. RE/MAX’s valuation has fallen nearly 90% since its 2017 peak.

Real REMAX will be headquartered in Miami but keep “significant operations remaining in the Denver area,” according to the companies’ statement.

One Shark Missed Billions… Another Saw This Coming

Imagine turning down an Uber offer at a $10 million valuation, only to see it go public at over $80 billion.

That’s exactly what happened to Mark Cuban… a 799,900% return, gone.

But original Shark Tank investor Kevin Harrington built his career doing the opposite: spotting asymmetric opportunities before they go mainstream.

Like Uber turned vehicles into income-generating assets, Mode Mobile is turning smartphones into income streams.

They were named the No. 1 fastest-growing software company by Deloitte and have already helped their users earn and save over $1 billion.

Kevin Harrington invested early.

And at just $0.50/share, you can still get in before their potential IPO.

Secure shares at $0.50 while the pre-IPO window is still open.
