Article Icon 1CPW Rethinks Beaver Management

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has spent the past month developing a conservation and management strategy for Colorado’s beavers.

While beavers are considered a keystone species, they’re also a source of human-wildlife conflict, particularly when it comes to water infrastructure.

To help reduce those conflicts, CPW has been developing a formal management plan, which could include hunting regulations, coexistence techniques, and translocations.

Though the initial public input period ended on Aug. 31, CPW says it will accept feedback on a draft version of the strategy this fall.

Article Icon 1Colorado Among Top for Alcohol Decline

Alcohol consumption has been steadily declining in the U.S., and Colorado is part of that trend, according to a new analysis.

Though Colorado is still a top-10 state for drinking, its share of drinking adults fell to 58.6% in 2023, down from 66% in 2013—the seventh-largest 10-year decline in the nation.

Nationally, the share of U.S. adults who say they drink alcohol is around 54%, a historic low amid shifting health attitudes and new challenges to the industry.
