Answer: Louis L’Amour owned a ranch in Hesperus, Colorado, within the Mancos Valley. This is where he spent a great deal of time writing and researching. He acquired the ranch from a family local to the San Juan region. He had intended to turn the ranch into a replica old western town that would serve as a tourist attraction and a set for filming. However, his death put an end to that idea.
