Supreme Court Pauses Livestreaming

Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Monica Márquez has ordered a 90-day statewide pause on livestreaming criminal proceedings in state trial courts.

Márquez said streams are being illegally recorded and reposted on social media in nearly every district and county court, and that platforms have refused to take the videos down.

State law requires judges to livestream criminal proceedings, and it sets criteria that must be met before a stream is limited or cut off.

Public access to physical courtrooms is unchanged, and judges keep discretion to stream when appropriate. A Colorado Springs attorney said the pause could invite a First Amendment challenge.

Polis Signs Bee Order

Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order Wednesday at a pollinator garden at the Denver Zoo, directing state agencies to protect Colorado bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

The order tells the departments of Natural Resources, Agriculture, Transportation, and Corrections to build a statewide strategy for long-term pollinator conservation.

Those agencies, along with Human Services, must also prioritize cutting pesticides or switching to pollinator-friendly products and expand habitat on state lands.

The Transportation Department will widen pollinator habitat within highway rights-of-way where possible. The order builds on a 2024 state study of native pollinating insects.

Reward Offered for Mailman Robbery

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever robbed a Denver letter carrier at gunpoint.

The robbery happened about 5:20 p.m. Monday on Clay Street near West 23rd Avenue, in Denver’s Jefferson Park neighborhood.

Investigators said the suspect approached the carrier on foot, brandished a firearm, and then fled east through an alley. The carrier was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as a white man wearing a balaclava, jeans, and a dark hooded sweatshirt with a printed logo. Tips go to 1-877-876-2455.
