Article Icon 1Democrats Back Colorado Redistricting

A nonprofit linked to U.S. House Democrats is funding a Colorado redistricting effort that would favor the party in seven of the state’s eight congressional seats, up from the four it controls now.

House Majority Forward, a group tied to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, gave $150,000 to Coloradans For a Level Playing Field, the committee behind a proposed ballot measure to draw a new congressional map for the 2028 and 2030 elections.

The map would make it easier for Democrats to win Colorado’s 3rd, 5th, and 8th congressional districts, seats currently held by Republican U.S. Reps. Jeff Hurd, Jeff Crank, and Gabe Evans.

The group must gather 125,000 signatures before the measure can appear on the November ballot. The effort is one of several in a national redistricting battle leading up to the midterms.

Article Icon 1Jailed Dentist Sued by Children

The six children of an Aurora dentist convicted of fatally poisoning his wife have filed a lawsuit against him, his now-defunct practice, and a company that sold him cyanide.

James Craig, 48, is serving a life sentence without parole after a jury found him guilty of murdering his wife, Angela Craig. Two of Craig’s daughters testified against him during the trial.

The lawsuit alleges Summerbrook Dental failed to monitor or question Craig’s suspicious activity and that Midland Scientific failed to verify he had a lawful reason to buy potassium cyanide, which “has no legitimate use in dentistry.”

The suit seeks an unspecified amount for emotional and financial damages related to the loss of the children’s mother. A judge denied a motion by Midland Scientific to dismiss the lawsuit.

Article Icon 1Spring Snow Wreaks Havoc

More than 55,000 Xcel Energy customers lost power Wednesday morning as heavy, wet snow snapped branches, toppled trees, and triggered outages across the Front Range.

Colorado State University, the University of Colorado Boulder, and several Front Range school districts closed for the day. The Denver Zoo also closed, and two Rockies games were rescheduled.

The storm snarled travel at Denver International Airport, where over 300 flights were delayed and 35 canceled by 1 p.m. Interstate 70 near Vail closed amid near-whiteout conditions.

By 11 a.m., 28 inches of snow had fallen in Estes Park, while several areas along the Interstate 25 corridor reported totals topping half a foot. See a list here.
