Article Icon 1Polis Order Targets Fuel Prices

Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order Friday that pauses enforcement of Colorado’s ban on dyed diesel on state highways through Dec. 31.

Dyed diesel is normally limited to off-road equipment like tractors. The order also lets the Colorado Department of Transportation issue permits for truckers to haul more fuel per load.

State health officials will ask the EPA to waive reformulated gas rules for summer 2027. Coloradans were paying nearly $4.20 a gallon for gas and more than $6.20 for diesel.

Polis blamed the war with Iran, saying the president’s “reckless war is directly increasing the cost of oil.” He said diesel prices are driving up costs for farmers and ranchers.

President Trump signed his own order Monday allowing dyed diesel on highways and deferring the federal tax on it through year’s end. The White House said governors can also choose to halt inspections.

Ballot drop boxes across Colorado start accepting ballots Monday, three weeks before the Nov. 3 election.

County clerks had until Friday to mail ballots to every active voter. October 26 is the last day to register and still receive one by mail.

Voter service and polling centers open statewide Oct. 19. After Oct. 26, voters should skip the mail and use a drop box or voter center.

Ballots must arrive by 7 p.m. on Election Day, and postmarks don’t count.

At a Thursday roundtable, election and law enforcement officials walked through the safeguards. Bipartisan teams handle ballots, and every signature is verified before a ballot is counted.

Article Icon 1House Report Targets Denver, Boulder DAs

A Republican-led House committee released a report Friday accusing Denver and Boulder of ignoring ICE detainers for illegal immigrants arrested on charges including child abuse and assault.

The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, says District Attorneys John Walsh of Denver and Michael Dougherty of Boulder weigh immigration consequences in charging and plea deals. It also says Denver gives ICE too little notice before releases.

The report cites the 2025 release of a suspected Tren de Aragua member who allegedly assaulted an ICE officer outside a Denver jail.

Dougherty called the report “a political stunt” timed to the midterms. His office says the committee misrepresented one of the cases.

The committee subpoenaed Dougherty in September after he didn’t turn over records it requested in May.
