Article Icon 1More Flooding Hits Southwest Colorado

Forecasters raised the expected crest of the San Juan River at Pagosa Springs to about 19.7 feet near 11 p.m. Sunday, nearly two feet above the 1911 record.

Archuleta, Rio Grande, and Conejos counties ordered evacuations along five rivers. Officials warned that helicopters would be grounded and rescuers might not reach people until the storm passed.

U.S. 160 closed Sunday afternoon to traffic entering Pagosa Springs. The same storms brought flash flooding and evacuations to Sedona, Arizona, with up to 4 inches of rain possible through Monday.

Gov. Jared Polis has requested a major disaster declaration from President Trump, citing nearly $27 million in eligible damage in Archuleta and Rio Grande counties.

Article Icon 1One Killed, One Injured at CU Party

A 19-year-old CU Boulder student was killed and another was critically injured when gunfire erupted at a University Hill house party around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police had shut down the party, which was registered and drew hundreds, after a noise complaint near 10 p.m. Police said shots were fired as a group tried to force its way inside.

Investigators identified two people of interest seen on video but have not called them suspects. Anyone with information can call Boulder police at 303-441-3333.

Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said it was Boulder’s first homicide of 2026. Police will increase patrols on University Hill, and CU has activated support services for students.

Article Icon 1Picasso Exhibit Coming to Denver

The Denver Art Museum (DAM) will host Picasso: Magician, a U.S.-exclusive exhibition chronicling 70 years of Pablo Picasso’s exploration of the human figure.

The show features 150 works, about 130 by Picasso and 20 by other artists, spanning painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and ceramics.

About 80 pieces are coming from the Musée National Picasso-Paris, and more than 30 are from the DAM’s collection. The museum’s last Picasso showing was a small display about 40 years ago.

The exhibit opens Oct. 31, 2027, in the Hamilton Building and runs through February 2028. It will be the largest-ever display of Picasso’s works at the DAM.
