Article Icon 1PSD Votes to Close, Consolidate Schools

After nearly nine hours of debate, the Poudre School District (PSD) board voted early Wednesday to close and consolidate schools amid declining enrollment in northern Colorado.

Beattie, Johnson, and Putnam elementary schools and Blevins Middle School will close in 2027, while Centennial High School and Poudre Community Academy will merge into a new school.

Irish Escuela Bilingüe and Timnath elementary schools are set to close in 2028, though Timnath Elementary could be spared if the town secures funding for a new school by November 2027.

Livermore, Red Feather Lakes, and Stove Prairie elementary schools, the three mountain schools that families fought to save, will stay open. The board’s resolution passed 5-2.

Dozens of searchers are combing the area around Ice Mountain in Chaffee County for two Colorado Mountain College students who haven’t been heard from since Friday.

Kaden Matsuda, 19, and Jackson Donlon, 20, left the college’s Leadville campus on Oct. 23, and campus staff reported them missing on Monday morning.

On Tuesday, a helicopter spotted the pair’s tent near Lake Ann, collapsed under heavy snow, with sleeping bags, a stove, and clothing inside but no sign of the hikers.

Sheriff Andy Rohrich said crews remain optimistic the men are hunkered down somewhere, but the window is closing with more poor weather expected this week.

Arapahoe Basin opened Wednesday, kicking off Colorado’s ski season and its own 80th winter as the first Ikon Pass destination to open for 2026-27.

The ski area won the race this year, a contest that typically pits it against Keystone Resort, Loveland Ski Area, and Wolf Creek Ski Area.

Skiers and riders can reach High Noon, an intermediate run, via the Black Mountain Express, and more terrain will open as snowmaking continues.

Ikon Pass and Ikon Base Pass holders get unlimited access to A-Basin this season. Breckenridge and Copper Mountain are both targeting Nov. 6 openings.

That scam call wasn’t random.

Scammers don’t just guess your number. They buy personal information from data brokers—companies selling your phone number, home address, relatives’ info, and more online.

That’s how a random scam call can turn into phishing, impersonation, identity theft—or someone knowing more about you than they should.

That’s why we recommend Incogni. It removes your personal information from these databases and keeps removing it automatically.
