Article Icon 1Lafayette Drops Flock

Lafayette’s city council voted unanimously Tuesday to end its Flock Safety contract and remove all 30 of the city’s license plate reader cameras.

The decision ends a surveillance program that began in 2022, following weeks of resident pushback over privacy and concerns about the cameras tracking their movements.

Police had credited the cameras with aiding 267 cases, 65 arrests, and 14 stolen vehicle recoveries in 2024 and 2025, and the city will cover them until Flock removes them.

Lafayette and Brighton also passed temporary bans on new data center applications Tuesday, with Brighton’s lasting one year and Lafayette’s lasting 18 months.

Bow Mar’s board of trustees unanimously approved moving forward Monday with an engineering firm to build a gate at the tiny town’s Sheridan Boulevard entrance.

The town approved $307,000 for gates that would open only for residents, guests, and emergency vehicles, and the first could be installed by Thanksgiving.

Denver and Littleton have warned of lawsuits and even gates of their own, arguing the plan would block their residents from using public roads.

Town leaders had paused construction in September to weigh a scaled-back plan with a single gate after pushback from both neighboring cities.

The Rev. Chad Ripperger, a prominent Catholic exorcist in the Denver Archdiocese, agreed to a one-year break from public speaking and interviews.

Archbishop James Golka asked for the fast during a recent meeting, and the archdiocese said Ripperger readily agreed and remains a priest in good standing.

Ripperger recently said aliens are “just demons” during a nearly three-hour Shawn Ryan Show interview that racked up about 2.8 million views.

He will use the year to focus on the Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother, the Keenesburg-based community he founded, and the arrangement will be reviewed at the one-year mark.
