Missy Woods Sentenced

A Jefferson County judge sentenced former Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) analyst Yvonne “Missy” Woods to 10 years in prison Tuesday on a cybercrime count, plus three years of mandatory parole.

Prosecutors said the doubt she sowed in the justice system will be her legacy. Woods told the court she understood the seriousness of what she had done.

Woods pleaded guilty in June to cybercrime, perjury, forgery, and attempting to influence a public servant, and prosecutors dropped the remaining 100 counts.

The 66-year-old spent 29 years at CBI. Her work affected more than 1,000 criminal cases, and the state has committed millions to reviewing the fallout.

14 Measures on Statewide Ballot

The secretary of state certified 14 statewide ballot measures for November, tying the record for the most questions put to Colorado voters in at least 52 years.

Thirteen are citizen initiatives and only one came from the legislature, a split unmatched since 1974. See the measures here.

Voters will weigh a graduated income tax, a right to hunt and fish, and a measure requiring future ballot questions to be written at an eighth-grade reading level.

Colorado ranks among the top states for ballot questions, but voters often say no. Only 36% of the 256 citizen-initiated questions have passed.

Highest Paved Road Wraps Season

The Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway is wrapping its first full season since renovation, with the stretch from Summit Lake to the peak closing yesterday morning.

The byway reopened in late May after nearly two years of construction, and the route typically draws more than 100,000 visitors between May and September.

It’s the highest paved road in North America, climbing more than 7,000 feet in 28 miles to an altitude of 14,130 feet.

The full byway runs 49 miles from Idaho Springs toward Bergen Park, takes about two hours, and is known for bighorn sheep and mountain goat sightings.
