Answer: In 1861, Colorado’s first Territorial Legislative Assembly chose Colorado City, now a part of Colorado Springs, to be the new territory’s capital. Just a year later, Colorado City lost the title to Golden, which served as capital until the Assembly settled on Denver in 1867.
