Article Icon 1Colorado Man Charged in Embassy Plot

A U.S.-German citizen originally from Colorado was arrested over the weekend on charges that he traveled to Israel and tried to firebomb a branch of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv.

Prosecutors say Joseph Neumeyer approached the embassy on May 19 carrying a backpack containing three Molotov cocktails. After a confrontation with a security guard, he fled, leaving the explosives behind.

Before the attack, Neumeyer allegedly posted threats on social media, claiming he would “burn down the embassy in Tel Aviv” and attempt to assassinate President Trump.

Israeli authorities deported Neumeyer to New York over the weekend, where he was taken into FBI custody. He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Article Icon 1Polis Vetoes Rideshare Bill

Gov. Polis on Friday vetoed House Bill 1291, a measure aimed at boosting rideshare safety, following public pushback from Uber and Lyft.

In its final form, the bill would have required more frequent background checks, banned drivers from offering food or drink, and added an option to record rides, among other regulations.

Uber had threatened to leave Colorado if the bill became law, directing users through an in-app message to oppose the measure. Lyft followed suit by urging a veto.

In his veto letter, Polis echoed the companies’ concerns, citing “unclear language” and “unworkable regulations” that could jeopardize their operations in Colorado. He encouraged lawmakers, along with Uber and Lyft, to enhance rideshare safety by other means.

Article Icon 1Long Weekend Storms Batter Colorado

Multiple tornadoes, large hail, and record rain made for a stormy long weekend across Colorado.

Four, possibly five, tornadoes were spotted in Logan and Washington counties Friday evening when ping pong to tennis ball-sized hail fell along the same 35-mile stretch. See photos here.

Heavy rain swept the state Saturday through Monday. Denver International Airport (DIA) recorded 1.39 inches of rain on Sunday, breaking the previous record for May 26 and far surpassing the 0.07-inch average.

All three days, thunderstorms delayed hundreds of flights out of DIA. Hundreds more were delayed Tuesday morning due to dense fog.
