Article Icon 1Colorado Bill Seeks to Raise Ammo Age to 21

Colorado lawmakers have introduced a bill aiming to raise the minimum age to purchase firearm ammunition to 21.

Sponsored by Democratic legislators, House Bill 1133 seeks to align ammunition sales with the state’s existing law prohibiting firearm purchases by those under 21. It would also require retailers to store ammunition behind counters and verify age before delivering by mail.

Violations would result in civil infractions, with repeat offenses leading to misdemeanor charges.

If passed, the law is expected to face legal challenges, similar to those encountered by Colorado’s age limit on gun purchases. The bill’s first hearing is scheduled for Feb. 13.

The figure skating community gathered at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs on Monday for a vigil honoring the victims of last week’s mid-air collision between an American Airlines plane and a Black Hawk helicopter.

Attendees placed flowers next to photos of the victims and shared memories, mourning the loss of athletes, coaches, and parents.

Justin Dillon, Senior Director at U.S. Figure Skating, had just returned from the U.S. Championships in Wichita. He recalled how the community quickly came together to confirm who was on the flight.

We’ll be grieving for a long time, and I think we just need to continue to reach out, support one another,” Dillon said.

Colorado pet owners and veterinarians are optimistic about a new clinical trial that could potentially extend the lives of dogs.

The trial, led by the San Francisco-based company Loyal, is testing a drug designed to address metabolic inefficiencies that contribute to aging, particularly in large-breed dogs.

Goodheart Animal Health Center in Denver is one of the participating clinics enrolling dogs in the study. The double-blind study will help determine the drug’s effectiveness, with potential FDA approval by year-end.
