Article Icon 1Amendment Adds $233M to School Funds

With days left in the legislative session, lawmakers introduced a last-minute amendment to the school finance bill, setting aside $233 million for K-12 schools.

Approved by a Senate committee late Friday, the Kids Matter Fund would redirect tax revenue beginning in 2026-2027. The goal is to stabilize school funding and help implement a new formula amid mounting budget pressures.

Opponents warn that other state programs, such as Medicaid, could face cuts due to the diversion of existing dollars without creating new revenue.

Sponsors of the amendment expect it to clear a Senate vote before the session ends May 7.

Colorado is the third-worst state in the nation for road rage, according to a new report from ConsumerAffairs.

The ranking, up from fourth last year, places Colorado behind Louisiana and New Mexico.

The report, which analyzed fatal crashes, traffic violations, and gun-related incidents, reveals that Colorado has the highest rate of violations for aggressive or careless driving and speeding, at 1.81 per 100,000 people—over eight times the national average.

Additionally, the state ranks No. 6 for gun violence on roads. This year alone, several road-rage incidents have led to shootings in Colorado.

Article Icon 1Burning Man Sculptures Come to Aurora

Two sculptures originally featured at the Burning Man festivals in Nevada will soon have a new home in Aurora.

The Aurora Highlands is in the process of installing Liberty, a 58-foot sculpture first showcased at Burning Man in 2024, and In Every Lifetime I Will Find You, a 14-foot sculpture that debuted at the festival in 2018. See photos here.

The pieces were created by Michael Benisty, a Belgian sculptor known for his mirrored stainless-steel artworks. They’ll join a collection of curated artworks at Hogan Park.

Liberty, inspired by the Statue of Liberty, will become the park’s tallest art piece, with installation set for this month.
