Question: What Colorado city is known as the “Home of Heroes” due to its high number of Medal of Honor recipients?
Answer: Pueblo is often called the “Home of Heroes” because it’s been home to four Medal of Honor recipients, more than any other city.
In 1953, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower presented one of the medals to Raymond G. “Jerry” Murphy, he said, “What is it… something in the water out there in Pueblo? All you guys turn out to be heroes!”
Today, multiple monuments commemorate the city’s military heritage, including Heroes Plaza, Center for American Values, the Vietnam and Korean War memorials at Dundee Park, and the Veterans’ Bridge, a tribute to over 7,000 service members.
