Question: In 1889, the San Miguel Valley Bank in Telluride became the first bank robbed by what infamous outlaw?
Answer: Joined by accomplices Matt Warner and Tom McCarty, Butch Cassidy, whose real name was Robert Parker, committed his first documented bank robbery in Telluride on June 24, 1889.
As leader of the Wild Bunch gang, Cassidy would go on to commit a string of train and bank heists before fleeing the country with Harry Longabaugh, the Sundance Kid. According to Pinkerton detectives, the duo died in Bolivia in 1909.
