Question: Who made the first recorded ascent of Pikes Peak?

Answer: Though Pikes Peak is named for Zebulon Pike, who documented and unsuccessfully tried to climb the mountain in 1806, explorer and botanist Edwin James made the first recorded ascent to the summit in 1820. His feat also marked the first recorded ascent of any 14,000-foot peak in North America.
