Question: How did the town of Castle Rock get its name?

Answer: Castle Rock was named for, and shares a name with, the castle-shaped butte that overlooks the town. In the 1840s, however, explorers in the area dubbed the formation “Poundcake Rock”—supposedly because they were so hungry they thought it resembled a poundcake.
