Answer: Fort Saint Vrain Nuclear Power Plant, built in Platteville and operated from 1979 to 1989, was Colorado’s first and only commercial nuclear plant. It was also one of the first U.S. reactors to experiment with thorium-based fuel and was the first commercial nuclear generating plant in the country to be fully decommissioned.
