Question: Colorado is the only U.S. state in history to do what with the Olympic Games?

Answer: Turn them down. Denver was awarded the 1976 Winter Olympics in 1970, but in November 1972, Colorado voters passed a ballot measure rejecting public funding for the games over concerns about cost, environmental impact, and population growth. The IOC had to scramble and ultimately moved the games to Innsbruck, Austria.
