Judge Orders White House Records Released

A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to turn over more records in Colorado’s lawsuit alleging the president cut state funding as political retaliation.

The order followed an Aug. 11 hearing in Denver, where state attorneys produced a White House email sent at 2:43 a.m. on Dec. 15, 2025, summoning five agencies to a “brainstorm call” about Colorado.

Hours later, President Trump called Gov. Jared Polis “weak and pathetic” for refusing to free former Mesa County clerk Tina Peters. Within days, agencies canceled hundreds of millions of dollars and moved to close a Boulder climate lab.

The administration has framed its Colorado decisions as policy, citing crime, immigration, and mail balloting.

Marx, Weiser To Share Chamber Stage

Gubernatorial nominees Victor Marx, R, and Phil Weiser, D, will appear together at the Colorado Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting Oct. 8 after the group dropped 9NEWS anchor Kyle Clark as moderator.

Clark had announced he would moderate the Chamber’s flagship event, where candidates for governor traditionally take questions. The program now lists a conversation with both nominees and a keynote from strategist Donna Brazile.

Marx said last month he will debate Weiser once, without a moderator. “I’m challenging you to a debate with no moderator,” he said in a video, and he has since declined a 9NEWS debate and the Club 20 forum in Grand Junction.

Weiser’s campaign rejected the challenge. “We only consider serious offers for serious debates,” communications director Nate Jackson said.

New Trails Open at Fishers Peak

Nine miles of new trail opened Saturday at Fishers Peak State Park south of Trinidad, spread across three routes named Storyteller, First Spring, and Chaquaqua.

The three connect with Fishers Peak Trail, the main route toward the summit, forming loops that give hikers and bikers somewhere to go when the top closes for nesting peregrine falcons. That closure usually runs March through July.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife also opened the Goldenrod Trail to mountain bikers Saturday, adding more than four miles of riding. Bikes may travel uphill only.

The park covers 19,200 acres and is the state’s second largest, behind State Forest State Park. A parks pass or Keep Colorado Wild Pass is required to get in.
