Article Icon 1ADL Releases Report on Shooter

Research by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) indicates Desmond Holly, the 16-year-old gunman in Wednesday’s shooting at Evergreen High School, embraced extremist content and ideologies online.

According to the ADL, Holly’s TikTok accounts featured white supremacist symbolism, photos of tactical gear he acquired, and references to other mass shootings, including Columbine.

Holly also spent time on a forum where users post and interact with graphic, violent content. The website is linked to at least two other teenage mass shooters, per the ADL.

Thursday evening, thousands of students, parents, and community members gathered for a vigil in Evergreen. “Together, we will get through this,” said Gov. Jared Polis, one of several state and local leaders to address the crowd.

Article Icon 1Caraveo Withdraws From 8th District Race

Former Rep. Yadira Caraveo, a Democrat, announced Friday she’s ending her bid to reclaim her seat in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District.

Caraveo had been running despite concerns about her mental health and allegations that she mistreated her staff. In a statement, she blamed resistance to her candidacy on “the stigmatization of mental health.”

She was the first to represent the toss-up district, which was created in 2022 and spans Denver’s northern suburbs. She lost her reelection bid in 2024 to Republican Rep. Gabe Evans.

The 8th District’s election is expected to be one of the most competitive U.S. House races in the nation next year.

Article Icon 1Severe Weather Prompts Warnings, Closures

A rare tornado touched down near the Utah-Colorado border Saturday, damaging at least three homes and prompting tornado warnings in Utah and in Colorado’s Montezuma and Dolores counties.

The tornado is considered extremely rare for the region, a desert terrain unfavorable to twisters, particularly at this time of year. See photos here.

The storms that formed the tornado eventually swept into Colorado, dumping several inches of rain and triggering flash floods on the burn-scarred Western Slope.

Severe weather continued into Sunday, when early snow and ice prompted the closure of Trail Ridge Road, a popular, seasonally open highway through Rocky Mountain National Park.
