Article Icon 1Hunting Groups Sue over Bag Limits

Two hunting organizations have sued the wildlife commission over a daily limit of two furbearers that Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) commissioners adopted in July.

Safari Club International and the Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation say the vote broke the State Administrative Procedure Act because the public was never notified of a two-animal option.

The public notice offered a limit of 15, which CPW staff recommended, or a tiered limit of eight or four. Commissioners instead approved a limit of two on a 6-5 vote.

The lawsuit, filed in Denver District Court, asks a judge to vacate the limit and require a new rulemaking with proper notice and public comment.

Article Icon 1Aurora Protesters Demand Police Chief’s Firing

Activists packed Aurora City Council chambers Monday night, staging a sit-in to demand the firing of Police Chief Todd Chamberlain.

The group cited fatal police shootings and a lack of transparency under Chamberlain. City Manager Jason Batchelor and two council members met with the group until about 2:30 a.m.

Batchelor defended the department, saying total crime is down 10% from last year and down 38% since Chamberlain was sworn in in September 2024.

The council also unanimously advanced an ordinance barring new data centers from mixed-use office and institutional zones. A final vote is set for Oct. 26.

Poor visibility, ice, and snow forced Rocky Mountain National Park to temporarily close Trail Ridge Road on Tuesday, ahead of its usual seasonal closure.

Park officials closed the road at Rainbow Curve on the east side of the park and at Milner Pass on the west side.

The highest continuous paved road in the country, Trail Ridge climbs to 12,183 feet and covers 48 miles between Estes Park and Grand Lake.

The road closes for the season every fall and typically reopens in late May. Travelers can check current park conditions here or call 970-586-1222.
