Article Icon 1Suspect Found Incompetent Arrested Again

University of Northern Colorado police on Wednesday arrested Debisa Ephraim, 21, for allegedly trespassing on campus and displaying a gun inside a residence hall.

Despite having no affiliation with the university, Ephraim has had multiple run-ins with campus police. UNC banned him from campus in 2021.

Earlier this month, Weld County authorities said a recent change to state law forced them to release Ephraim, who had been charged with attempted murder, because he was found incompetent to stand trial.

His release garnered national attention, including from Elon Musk and the late Charlie Kirk, and stoked an ongoing controversy over Colorado’s competency laws.

Residents of Soaring Eagles Townhomes in Colorado Springs gathered for a protest on Monday after their homeowners association told them to pay $20,752.12 per unit to cover hail damage repairs.

The payments, tied to a severe 2024 hailstorm, represent a $3.1 million insurance deductible split among 150 homes. They’re due Oct. 1. After that, members could face liens, late fees, or an 18% interest payment plan.

Residents say the charges violate the HOA’s $10,000 cap on loss assessments and could put residents at risk of losing their homes. Some plan to take legal action.

In a statement, the HOA board’s attorney said the insurance landscape—not the board—is to blame, calling it a “statewide problem” driven by rising costs in an under-regulated industry.

A University of Colorado Boulder project one decade in the making was launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Wednesday.

Developed at a CU Boulder lab, the Interstellar Dust Experiment (IDEX) is one of 10 instruments flying aboard NASA’s Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe, which will map and study the boundaries of the heliosphere.

Shaped like a large drum, IDEX will collect and analyze interstellar dust, or “stardust,” entering our solar system, as well as interplanetary dust shed by comets and asteroids.

Now that it’s launched, IDEX will travel 932,000 miles carrying a plaque with the names of 87 scientists, engineers, and students who worked on the project at CU Boulder.
