Article Icon 1Student Arrested for School Threat

Arvada police on Tuesday arrested a student for allegedly making a threat toward Ralston Valley High School just hours after the shooting at Evergreen High School.

On Sept. 10, the student shared a Snapchat photo of a rifle, ammunition, and a magazine, captioned “Be ready rv.” The post prompted hundreds of Safe2Tell reports, and about 1,100 students skipped school the next day.

Officers contacted the suspect that night but found no evidence to substantiate a criminal charge at the time and deemed the threat not credible. The image was later traced to a French social media video from 2024.

Following a monthlong investigation, police gathered enough evidence to charge the student with interference with staff, faculty, or students of educational institutions, a class 1 misdemeanor. The student hasn’t been identified.

Article Icon 1Colorado Asks SCOTUS to Reject River Lawsuit

Colorado asked the Supreme Court in a brief filed Wednesday to reject Nebraska’s lawsuit over alleged violations of the 1923 South Platte River Compact.

The lawsuit, filed in July, claims Colorado is blocking Nebraska’s attempt to build the Perkins Canal, which would divert more river water across state lines and could involve the seizure of Colorado land by Nebraska.

In the brief, Attorney General Phil Weiser called the lawsuit “speculative and premature,” noting Nebraska has “only just begun” to plan the canal and arguing the dispute is unfit for Supreme Court review.

The court hasn’t decided whether to accept the case. A decision is likely by the end of its 2025-26 session in June.

The Regional Transportation District officially rolled out its Transit Police Department Detective Bureau on Wednesday.

RTD-PD detectives will investigate crimes that occur on RTD’s trains, buses, and other property, which spans eight counties and 40 municipalities across the greater Denver area.

In the past, those crimes were assigned to different agencies depending on where they occurred. Riders say they’re optimistic that having cases handled in-house will lead to more accountability and safer rides.

The bureau is part of RTD’s overarching plan to reduce crime, which has also included providing safety shields to drivers and installing live cameras on buses.
