Article Icon 1Safeway, King Soopers Strike Looms

A Colorado labor union representing over 7,000 Safeway and Albertsons employees gave a 72-hour strike notice on Wednesday after failed negotiations over wages, staffing, and benefits.

The union’s contract extension will expire Saturday at 11:59 p.m., meaning a strike could begin Sunday morning. A final offer made by union leaders is set to expire at 5 p.m. today.

Though no official strike date has been set, this is the first time Colorado Safeway workers have voted to strike in almost 30 years.

A similar threat looms for King Soopers, whose union members went on a 12-day strike in February. The temporary deal that paused that action expired June 8, with no new agreement reached.

Littleton police are searching for the suspects who damaged or totaled at least eight parked cars in the Aberdeen Village neighborhood on the night of June 1.

Surveillance footage shows the vandals pull up in a silver SUV, pick up large rocks from a neighbor’s yard, hurl them through the cars’ windows, and drive away.

Residents said they were “bewildered” by the apparently random vandalism. According to the Littleton Police Department, minor crimes like this are more common in the summer.

The department is asking additional victims or anyone who can identify the suspects in the videos to contact them.
