Article Icon 1Missy Woods Pleads Not Guilty

Yvonne “Missy” Woods, the former Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) analyst accused of mishandling DNA evidence throughout her 29-year career, pleaded not guilty to all charges Wednesday.

Woods, 65, is charged with 102 felonies for the alleged misconduct, which includes falsifying reports and deleting data to avoid extra work. CBI says over 1,000 cases were impacted from 2008 to 2023.

A Boulder man’s 2012 murder conviction has been vacated in the wake of the scandal. His retrial is scheduled to take place in May.

Woods’ not guilty plea comes after multiple delays and more than a year since her arrest in January 2025. Trial is set for Sept. 24 and is expected to last five weeks.

Article Icon 1Report: Hail Drives High Insurance Rates

Hail, not wildfire, is the largest driver of homeowner insurance costs in many counties, according to a new report by the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI).

Hail accounts for 26-54% of a premium’s costs, while wildfire risk makes up 1-25%, the report found. The DOI says insurers target high-risk areas for wildfire pricing but spread hail risk across the state.

Colorado is No. 2 in the nation for hail insurance claims. It also has the fourth-most expensive homeowners’ insurance in the U.S., according to Insurify.

To curb costs, lawmakers are drafting a bill that would create a grant program for hail-fortified roofs. The DOI estimates these roofs would save homeowners $82 to $387 per year.

Article Icon 1Deputies Respond to Loose Wallaby

Douglas County deputies responded to an unusual call recently when residents of a Highlands Ranch neighborhood reported a runaway kangaroo roaming the streets.

The animal in question turned out to be a wallaby, the kangaroo’s smaller cousin. Body camera footage shows the marsupial’s owners safely herding it back home. See the video here.

The pet owners then invited the deputies inside, where they spent time petting the wallaby—a minor Instagram celebrity named Charlie—and feeding it mango slices.

Colorado has made headlines in the past for loose kangaroos, which are legal to own in the state. In May 2025, a red kangaroo escaped from its Durango home for the second time in one year.
