Article Icon 1Colorado Leads Nation in EV Market Share

Colorado now ranks No. 1 in the nation for market share of new electric vehicles (EVs) purchased during the third quarter of 2024.

New data shows that one in every four new cars sold in the state during this period were EVs, surpassing California’s market share.

For the first nine months of 2024, Colorado also ranked second in the nation in market share for new electric vehicle sales.

Gov. Jared Polis credits this to lower operating costs and substantial financial incentives. These include state tax credits of up to $5,000 and a $7,500 federal tax credit, along with additional rebates available through public programs.

The Morrison Police Department is set to disband on January 1, 2025, due to financial concerns.

During a town board meeting on Monday, officials decided to transition law enforcement responsibilities to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The move comes in response to budget challenges, as the police department’s operating costs—$1.47 million in 2023 and an estimated $1.73 million in 2024—have outpaced revenue generated through fines and fees.

The Sheriff’s Office, which has provided overnight law enforcement services for Morrison since 2019, will assume full coverage under an amended contract.

The Denver Police Department has introduced a robotic dog, temporarily named “Spot,” to its bomb squad and SWAT teams.

Equipped with an arm for opening doors, cameras, lights, and two-way communication capabilities, the robot is designed to navigate and manage dangerous situations.

Unlike previous bomb robots, Spot is capable of climbing stairs, recovering from falls, and moving through debris.

It is not weaponized and police say it will solely be used for safety and engagement purposes. The robot will be showcased at this weekend’s Parade of Lights. See video of Spot here.
