Denver Police Retest Woods Cases

The Denver Crime Lab has retested sexual assault cases handled by former Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) analyst Yvonne “Missy” Woods, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison last week for manipulating and mishandling evidence.

Denver police said Saturday that the broader CBI investigation identified 27 affected sexual assault cases in the city. Three were flagged as high-risk, and the lab retested those plus 10 others.

Testing in 11 of the 13 cases produced CODIS-eligible DNA profiles that can be entered into the FBI database. Six of those provided possible leads to suspects or other investigations.

All 13 cases have been reopened and remain active, and the lab’s final reports will go to the Denver District Attorney’s Office once they are complete.

Stormier Week Ahead

After a summerlike weekend, today stays warm along the Front Range, though clouds and a few showers could keep temperatures down.

Storm chances run highest near the mountains and the Palmer Divide, with activity possibly reaching Denver and the plains by evening. Today’s high lands near 88.

A stronger cold front arrives tonight, setting up a cooler and stormier week. Tuesday highs drop into the upper 60s and lower 70s.

On the Western Slope, rain will be more widespread early this morning, with a few showers or thunderstorms possible Tuesday and Wednesday.

Laundry-Folding Robot Wins Awards

Two Greeley women have built a robotic cabinet that folds clean laundry and puts it away, and their startup just won two awards for it.

Eliszabeth Van, a robotics engineer who has worked with Boston Dynamics and NASA, and Katrina Hellmann, formerly of Texas Instruments, founded Origami Motion in Greeley.

Their Ori-Smart Dresser debuted late last month at an innovation showcase in Loveland, where it took both People’s Choice and Most Innovative. Clothes go in the bottom and come out folded up top.

The company is taking $100 preorders, with the balance due at shipping. The finished cabinet is expected to retail for around $2,500.
