Question: Colorado’s largest body of water isn’t a natural lake at all, but a reservoir on the Western Slope. Which one?
Answer: Blue Mesa Reservoir, on the Gunnison River west of the town of Gunnison, is the largest body of water in Colorado. It is the centerpiece of Curecanti National Recreation Area and was created by Blue Mesa Dam, which was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The catch: Colorado’s largest natural lake is Grand Lake, on the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park.
