Article Icon 1Trump Pulls Endorsement of Rep. Hurd

President Trump on Saturday withdrew his endorsement of U.S. Rep Jeff Hurd, R.-Colo., citing the first-term congressman’s “lack of support” for the president’s emergency tariffs.

The announcement, made via Truth Social, follows a 6-3 Supreme Court ruling that struck down most of Trump’s tariff policies. Hurd was one of six Republicans who crossed the aisle in a Feb. 11 House vote to repeal tariffs on Canada.

“Congressman Hurd is one of a small number of Legislators who have let me and our Country down,” Trump wrote, noting that he has only withdrawn an endorsement once before.

Trump said he’s now endorsing Hope Scheppelman, Hurd’s Republican primary opponent in the 3rd Congressional District, which covers most of the Western Slope. The primary election is June 30.

Article Icon 1TdA Members Sentenced for Robbery

Two members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, or TdA, were sentenced to federal prison for their roles in robbing a Denver jewelry store, the U.S. attorney’s office announced last week.

In June 2024, Jean Torres-Roman, Newman Castillo Delgado, and other suspects pointed weapons at and beat employees of Joyeria El Ruby, a family-owned store, before taking nearly $4 million in gold and jewelry.

The court found that Torres-Roman and Castillo Delgado, who both pleaded guilty, were members of TdA. A separate RICO indictment linked senior leaders of the gang to several crimes in Colorado, including the robbery.

Torres-Roman and Castillo Delgado were sentenced to 235 months and 240 months, or 20 years, in prison, respectively. The judge also ordered each to pay restitution of $3,939,076.26.

Article Icon 1Ski Resorts Welcome Fresh Snow

Nearly 5 feet of snow fell at Wolf Creek, a ski area north of Pagosa Springs, during last week’s winter storm, with other high-country areas reporting multi-foot totals. See a list here.

The storm brought much-needed relief to resorts in the back half of an unusually warm, dry season. Arapahoe Basin opened 15% more terrain, and Crested Butte, which received 21 inches, posted on social media: “Winter is back… and we couldn’t be happier!”

The snowfall also went some way to improving what has been a record-low snowpack, boosting it, as of Feb. 22, to 63% of the median, up from 51% in the weeks before.

Experts say Colorado will need more heavy storms to close the remaining gap in the state’s snow supply, which is a vital source of water.
