Question: In addition to such U.S. presidents as Theodore Roosevelt, Hotel Colorado frequently hosted what infamous 1930s gangster?
Answer: Al Capone, also known as Scarface, often stayed at Hotel Colorado during his visits to Glenwood Springs. Capone and fellow gangster “Diamond” Jack Alterie drew so much unwanted attention during their stays that the hotel put up a special entrance to conceal them from public view. To this day, rumors persist of a secret tunnel allegedly used by Capone to smuggle liquor into the building.
