Question: Where is Colorado’s only active volcano?
Answer: Dotsero Crater, located just outside the northwestern town of Dotsero, is considered by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to be the only active volcano in the state. It last erupted between 3,800 and 5,500 years ago, causing the eponymous crater to form. Though not likely to explode in our lifetime, the USGS puts the volcano’s risk level at moderate, meaning if it did erupt, the resulting ash would interfere with local airplane traffic.
