Article Icon 1Data Leaks Possible in Cyberattack

A targeted attack by an organized cybercriminal group has taken emergency alert platform OnSolve CodeRED offline and may have compromised thousands of Coloradans’ data, officials said Monday.

In a statement sent to users nationwide, Crisis24, the platform’s owner, said sensitive user data—including names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, and passwords—“may be leaked,” and that reused passwords should be changed immediately.

In Douglas County, about 88,000 landlines and 130,000 cell phones are opted into the system, which has been offline since Nov. 10. The sheriff’s office, citing a lack of trust after CodeRED initially failed to disclose the attack, terminated its contract with the platform.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office and Thornton Police Department were also impacted by the outage and data breach. Both agencies said they’re reevaluating their contracts with CodeRED.

Article Icon 1I-70 Among Riskiest Winter Roads

A new study of America’s most dangerous winter roads found that Interstate 70 (I-70) ranks No. 6 overall, with a seasonal crash rate increase of 267%. See the list here.

Rapid temperature swings, wind exposure, and congested interchanges are shared conditions on the high-risk roadways. I-70’s accident hotspots include Glenwood Canyon, Vail Pass to Silverthorne, and the Eisenhower-Johnson Tunnels.

To curb the surge in I-70 crashes, Colorado enacted stricter traction laws this year, requiring two-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive cars to carry chains or traction devices in the I-70 mountain corridor from Sept. 1 to May 31.

CDOT also launched a new webpage to help drivers prepare for travel in the often-congested corridor, compiling forecasts, plow status, closure alerts, and live camera feeds.

Article Icon 1Rangers Rescue Ram Stuck in Mud

Four park rangers came to the rescue of a Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep after the animal became stuck neck-deep in mud in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The ram was seen struggling to break free, apparently unable to escape the mud pit at Sheep Lakes, a meadow favored by bighorns for its nutrient-rich soil.

Lassoing a rope around the ram’s horns, rangers hauled it out of the pit and onto solid ground, where—caked in mud—it eventually found its footing.

A wildlife photographer captured the entire incident on camera. See the video here.
