No injuries were reported after a small plane crash-landed on a Castle Rock road north of Cedar Hill Cemetery early Monday evening.

According to the pilot, the single-engine plane lost power after taking off from Centennial Airport with three people on board.

The pilot, unable to return to the airport and spotting a mostly clear road, landed on Prairie Hawk Drive, hitting and damaging one vehicle in the process.

Crews towed the aircraft, and the road reopened to traffic after about two hours. Castle Rock Fire Chief Norris Croom called the outcome of the crash “very fortunate.”

The Associated Students of Fort Lewis College (ASFLC) in Durango reversed its initial decision to block a student from establishing a Turning Point USA chapter following public backlash.

The ASFLC Senate voted last month to reject senior Jonah Flynn’s proposal to register the chapter after several students voiced opposition to the conservative group.

Flynn planned to appeal the decision, believing it infringed on free speech. A petition supporting him garnered more than 1,300 signatures, and Colorado’s House Republicans sent a letter urging the school to reconsider.

In an emergency meeting held Friday night, ASFLC voted 6-0 to approve the chapter as a registered student organization, granting it access to campus facilities and events.

Article Icon 1Polis Pardons Turkeys

Gov. Jared Polis pardoned Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, two Fort Collins-raised turkeys named by a public vote, in Colorado’s third annual turkey pardoning Monday.

The turkeys were front and center at the pardoning ceremony outside the Governor’s Mansion, where they were treated to a night’s stay beforehand, as is tradition. See a video here.

In sparing the turkeys, Polis spoke about the important role of Colorado’s agricultural producers, who “work year-round” to keep families fed. The event also kicked off a weeklong food drive.

Following the pardon, the turkeys were transported to an animal sanctuary in Erie, where they’ll live out their lives among other rescued animals.
