Good Morning! On this day in 1887, the first soldiers made camp at the site of Fort Logan. The fort officially closed in 1946, with part of the land later set aside for Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Daylight saving time will end this Sunday, when the clocks “fall back” one hour. Colorado is one of the states that’s tried—so far in vain—to make daylight saving time permanent. Here’s a list of where each state stands on the time-change debate.

State Sues to Keep Space Command

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is suing the Trump administration to block its relocation of U.S. Space Command from Colorado Springs to Huntsville, Alabama.

By moving the command, Weiser argues, President Trump is punishing Colorado for its use of mail-in voting, violating the state’s constitutional right to regulate elections.

The lawsuit also claims the administration skipped the procedures required to move a major command. Weiser is seeking a court order stopping the relocation while the suit is pending.

Both Democrats and Republicans in Colorado have opposed the decision to move the headquarters, whose annual economic impact is estimated at $1 billion.

Food Banks Brace for SNAP Pause

Roughly 600,000 Coloradans who receive federal food assistance benefits will go without them beginning tomorrow, Nov. 1, as the government shutdown enters its second month.

A new map indicates Southern Colorado, the Eastern Plains, and the Western Slope will be hit hardest by the pause, which halts $120 million in benefits across the state.

Food banks statewide are scrambling to meet a record surge in demand, and many organizations have rallied to donate money or produce. Feeding Colorado, an association of five food banks, reports $120,000 in donations so far.

Yesterday, the state budget committee approved $10 million in emergency funding for food banks, along with extended funding for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.

A coalition of states, including Colorado, is suing the U.S. Department of Agriculture to restore SNAP benefits.

Casa Bonita Performers Strike on Halloween

All 57 of Casa Bonita’s unionized cliff divers, roaming characters, and other performers went on strike Thursday, with plans to picket outside the iconic restaurant through Saturday.

The performers, who unionized last year, have been asking for higher wages. According to union leaders, management walked away from negotiations Wednesday, prompting the strike.

The union also claims management illegally cut several performers’ shifts to accommodate Casa BOOnita, a month-long Halloween event that invites guests to wear costumes.

The restaurant plans to stay open during the three-day strike, offering a free drink or arcade ticket to affected guests.
