Article Icon 1Colorado Group Celebrates Hostages’ Release

Members of Run For Their Lives Colorado celebrated on Monday as Hamas released the last of 20 living Israeli hostages under a landmark ceasefire agreement.

Since 251 hostages were taken during the Oct. 7, 2023, attack, Run For Their Lives has held weekly walks in Boulder, Denver, and later in Fort Collins, calling for their release.

On June 1, Mohamed Soliman attacked the group’s Boulder chapter with Molotov cocktails, injuring more than a dozen. One victim later died in the hospital.

Four months later, members of the movement in Colorado reacted with mixed emotions to news of the release. “There is a lot of joy today, but also a lot of sadness,” one said.

Hamas still has the remains of 24 hostages killed in captivity. While the group hasn’t decided whether to continue the walks, many plan to keep advocating for their return and proper burial.

Article Icon 1More Rain, Evacuations in Southwest Colorado

Record-breaking rain continued to fall in Southwest Colorado on Tuesday, further straining river systems and increasing flood risk in the region.

Archuleta County and Pagosa Springs issued mandatory evacuations late Monday as the San Juan River resurged to peak levels, creating potentially “life-threatening” conditions, according to local officials.

Much of La Plata County, where flooding triggered nearly 400 home evacuations, remained under evacuation or pre-evacuation status Tuesday. See a current map here.

Flood warnings and watches in several counties expired Tuesday night. Heavy rain began to taper off Tuesday, but is not expected to clear until tomorrow.

Article Icon 1Ski Areas Fire Up Snow Guns

Crews at Loveland Ski Area, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, and Keystone Resort kicked off snowmaking operations Sunday night into Monday, taking advantage of a cold front as they race to open their slopes for the 2025-26 season.

Ski resorts make snow by forcing water and pressurized air through a snow gun or snow cannon. See a video of the process here.

Copper Mountain, host of the 2025-26 Alpine Ski World Cup races, began snowmaking earlier this month. It plans to open for race training on Oct. 24 and to the public on Nov. 7.

Most Colorado ski areas open in late October to early November. A-Basin, often the first to open, said it’s “on track with past snowmaking seasons,” with several cold weather windows in the coming weeks.

If it feels like your body fights you every time you try to lose weight, you’re not imagining it.

According to one of Beverly Hills’ leading cosmetic surgeons, it may be due to a biological phenomenon known as the “fat-lock effect.”

Studies show that under certain conditions, your body can store extra calories as fat without eating a single extra bite.

That means if you’re eating three meals a day, your body is reacting as if you’ve eaten a fourth meal and hoarding the excess calories.

But here’s the good news: Dr. John Lakey has recently discovered a simple two-minute daily ritual that helps counteract the “fat-lock effect.”

The results have been nothing short of extraordinary for his patients.†*
