Article Icon 1Torrential Rain Triggers Evacuations

Heavy rainfall sent by Hurricane Priscilla caused Vallecito Creek and Grimes Creek to overflow Saturday, forcing hundreds of La Plata County residents to evacuate their homes.

About 390 homes were evacuated, and between 40 and 50 homes were damaged. The unprecedented flooding, peaking at 7,200 cubic feet per second, closed multiple roads and made some evacuation routes impassable.

As the storm moved east, the San Juan River also overflowed, flooding parts of downtown Pagosa Springs, temporarily closing Highway 160 and prompting mandatory evacuations, which were lifted Sunday morning.

Both areas have issued local disaster emergency declarations. Another, less severe surge of moisture is expected to hit Southwest Colorado today and tomorrow.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office launched a criminal investigation after a large swastika appeared on a hillside off Interstate 70 near Golden early Saturday.

Drivers first reported the giant symbol, made of white sheets anchored to the ground, around sunrise. Deputies photographed the scene, and by 10 a.m. open space rangers had dismantled it. No suspects have been identified.

The Anti-Defamation League Mountain States division and Stop Antisemitism Colorado condemned the act and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Article Icon 1Denver to Open Park Hill Park

Denver’s fourth-largest park will open to the public later this month following a land swap deal between the city and developer Westside Investment Partners.

Park Hill Park, formerly Park Hill Golf Course, will open on Oct. 28. Until it’s fully renovated, access will be limited to daylight hours and passive uses like walking, jogging, and enjoying nature.

The city announced plans to acquire the property in January. It finalized the historic exchange last week, trading 145 acres of city-owned land for the 155-acre golf course.

Design and renovation are expected to take several years. A public survey about the future of the park will close on Oct. 23.

Digital Dollar 2.0 May Be Coming

On July 17, while the press chased shiny objects and Epstein headlines, the House passed the GENIUS Act.

According to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, it’s a bill that contains “the entire setup, groundwork, and infrastructure to move from cash to digital currency.”

What appears to be “modernization” may actually be a transition to programmable money. In other words, a digital currency that could be controlled by the federal government.

When cash dies, access to your savings can become conditional.

That’s not theoretical. Ask Canada’s truckers what happened when their bank accounts were frozen.

This isn’t a currency debate. It’s a sovereignty crisis.

If they control your money, they control you.
