Article Icon 1Man Arrested for Church Bomb Threats

A former member of Crossroads Community Church in Parker is facing felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly making a series of false bomb threats.

Crossroads asked Patrick Sparks, 27, to leave the church about six months ago. In mid-August, it began receiving bomb and death threats via email and comments on service livestreams, at one point prompting an evacuation.

Investigators swept the building but found no explosives. They eventually traced the messages to Sparks, whom an off-duty officer also spotted trespassing outside the church during an evening service.

Police obtained an arrest warrant on Sept. 20 and reportedly found a gun at Sparks’ home. He’s currently being held on $250,000 bond.

Black Bear Pass, a mountain road near Telluride, is closed indefinitely due to a Kia Telluride stuck on the side of the road, the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, a South Carolina man drove the vehicle up the one-way road “despite being advised not to do so by people in the area.”

The car became stuck on a switchback, leaving it unstable and “teetering off the edge” of the trail. See photos here.

The Kia is unsafe for other vehicles to drive around, and it’s unclear when it can be towed, according to the sheriff’s office. Bridal Veil Road is also closed up to the falls, preventing access to Via Ferrata, a popular climbing route.

Article Icon 1Air Force to Face Undefeated Navy

Air Force looks to avenge last year’s loss to Navy as the Falcons travel to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy competition. Air Force has won the trophy 21 times, more than either Army or Navy.

Air Force leads the all-time series with Navy, 34-23. Before last season’s 34-7 loss, the Falcons had beaten the Midshipmen four consecutive years. This year’s game kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m. on CBS.

In Air Force’s 44-35 loss to Hawaii last week, quarterback Liam Szarka set a school record with 417 yards of total offense—278 passing and 139 rushing.

Navy, undefeated, is a 12.5-point favorite and leads the nation in rushing at more than 350 yards per game.
