Article Icon 1Johnston Delivers State of City Address

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston delivered his second State of the City Address on Monday, speaking about the city’s successes and challenges as he enters the second half of his mayoral term.

Johnston touted a 45% drop in street homelessness and said he would continue to curb homelessness by pairing outreach with enforcement. He also outlined plans to accelerate housing development with tax incentives, streamlined permitting, and office-to-residential conversions.

According to Johnston, those efforts will dovetail with improving public safety, revitalizing downtown, and a proposed $935 million bond package that would fund a variety of infrastructure projects pending voter approval.

Throughout the address, Johnston suggested Denver could become the “capital of the new West,” though he noted the city’s $250 million budget deficit will require making “hard decisions.” Read the full address here.

Article Icon 1NWSL Team Unveils Name, Crest

Denver’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team will officially be called Denver Summit FC, the club announced Tuesday.

Fans voted on a name earlier this year, choosing from six finalists. The club says Denver Summit won overwhelmingly, though the listed option during the voting process was Colorado Summit FC.

The team also debuted its official crest, which depicts the Rocky Mountains against a setting sun in green, yellow, and sandstone red colors. See the crest here.

The team’s inaugural season begins January 2026, with plans to play at a temporary venue while its Santa Fe Yards stadium is under construction. Denver is expected to contribute $70 million to the stadium land and infrastructure.

Article Icon 1Monsoon Season Peaks

Monsoon season has begun to peak in Colorado, bringing frequent thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and a risk of flash floods.

The North American Monsoon typically peaks from late July through August. In Colorado, its effects are most pronounced in the southwest and along the Front Range. See a map here.

Afternoon storms, large hail, and localized flash flooding are possible today and tomorrow, with highs dropping to the mid-80s. The risk of flash floods is highest in areas with recent wildfire burn scars, where the ground absorbs less rainfall.

To stay safe during monsoon season, experts recommend signing up for emergency alerts, avoiding flooded areas, and seeking shelter if you hear thunder.
